Evening of Encounter

for Persecutees and Detainees of the Communist Dictatorship
17:00 - 20:00

On 5 December 2022, the Bautzner Straße Dresden Memorial will commemorate the day of the occupation of the Dresden district administration of the MfS by Dresden citizens in 1989. To mark the occasion, the memorial's sponsoring association and the Saxon State Commissioner for the Reappraisal of the SED Dictatorship invite you to an evening of encounters at the memorial. The evening of encounter is aimed primarily at those persecuted and imprisoned during the communist dictatorship 1945-1989 on the territory of present-day Saxony.

This year's evening of encounter will once again offer you the opportunity to talk to each other over a snack. We look forward to your participation, also with relatives, and your brief feedback by 30 November 2022. We are also at your disposal for any comments or questions you may have.

In an artistic programme we will show the premiere of "I want to leave this time. A Film for Freedom" by Ahmad Mesgarha. In the 30-minute film, the Dresden actor interweaves poems and texts by political prisoners and impressions of the memorial site, the former Stasi remand prison on Bautzner Straße. The film was funded in 2020 by the State Commissioner for the Reappraisal of the SED Dictatorship. As part of the encounter festival, we will also open the exhibition "Frauenenzuchthaus Hoheneck. Place of Judicial Terror" by the Frauenkreis der ehemaligen Hoheneckerinnen e.V. (Women's Circle of Former Hoheneck Women).

After the encounter evening had to be cancelled in 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic, we are very pleased to welcome you back to the memorial in December 2022. Should the pandemic again necessitate hygiene requirements that prevent the event from taking place, we will inform you in good time.
